The première of this new musical will be at Hackney Empire from Saturday 6 to Sunday 14 April 2013 prior to a UK tour to June 29. The press performance is on Wednesday 10 April at 7.30pm.

Set in London’s West End in the sixties with its iconic clubs, fashion and characters, Carnaby Street tells the story of Jude, a working class boy from Liverpool, new in London and armed with nothing but his guitar and his dreams of fame and fortune. The musical follows the passion and heartbreak of his journey in pursuit of stardom. There will be 30 classic hits including ‘Don't let me be misunderstood’, ‘Sweets for my sweet’, ‘Roll over Beethoven’, ‘Doo Wah Diddy’.

In the cast are Matthew Wycliffe, Verity Rushworth, Aaron Sidwell, Tricia Adele-Turner, Mark Pearce, Paul Hazel, Hugo Harold-Harrison, Tom Connor, Cici Howells, Jonny Bower, Mike Slader, Lauren Storer, Gregory Clarke, Dan Smith, Lilly Howard, Claude Pelletier, Craig Anderson, Matthew Quinn.

It is directed by Bob Tomson with design by Matthew Wright. Choreography is by Carole Todd, lighting by Nick Richings and sound design by Ben Harrison. The musical supervisor is Colin Cattle. It is produced by Carnaby Street Promotions Ltd in association with Hackney Empire. It is written by Carl Leighton-Pope and Robert Johns.

Bob Tomson has directed ‘Blood Brothers’, the recent UK and European tour of ‘Evita’ and ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’. For television he has directed many episodes of ‘Brookside’, ‘Heartbeat’, ‘The Bill’ and ‘Doctors’. Award winning designer Matthew Wright’s credits include the costumes for Sondheim’s ‘Road Show’ Menier and Terry Johnson’s production of ‘La Cage Aux Folles’, Menier, West End and Broadway. He designed the UK and European tour of ‘Evita’, and the costumes for ‘Sweet Charity’ with Tamzin Outhwaite at the Menier and Theatre Royal Haymarket. Carole Todd has choreographed at the National Theatre, Royal Opera House and most recently ‘Dreamboats and Petticoats’ and ‘Soul Sister’ West End and tour. Colin Cattle has been the musical supervisor of many West End and UK tours including ‘Barnum’, ‘Godspell’, ‘Beauty and The Beast’, and ‘Little Shop of Horrors’. Nick Richings’ lighting designs include for Damon Albarn’s ‘Monkey: Journey to the West’ at the Royal Opera House, US tour and O2.

Matthew Wycliffe (Jude) has played Bob Gaudio in the Award winning ‘Jersey Boys’, Prince Edward Theatre. He played Buddy Holly in ‘Buddy’ and US tour. Verity Rushworth (Penny) has played Maria in the UK tour of ‘The Sound of Music’. She was Donna Windsor -Dingle in ITV’s Emmerdale; and Grace Farrell in ‘Annie’ at West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2011. Aaron Sidwell (Jack) was Steven Beale in BBC EastEnders. His band The Boston Plan toured with rapper Professor Green. They also performed on BBC's Children in Need. Tricia Adele-Turner’s (Jane) stage roles include in ‘Legally Blonde’ and The Killer Queen in ‘We Will Rock You’ at the Dominion.
