HOLLY GOLIGHTLY (1966) Sundays September 8, 15, 22, 29 at 3.30pm.

The Book is by Abe Burrows, with Music and Lyrics by Bob Merrill based on 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' by Truman Capote.

“Blockbuster!" Holly Golightly shouted, in bold letters in 1966. A new musical from the producer, David Merrick, of Hello, Dolly!, the songwriter, Bob Merrill of ‘Funny Girl’, and ‘Carnival’ and the director librettist, Abe Burrows of ‘Guys And Dolls’ and ‘How To Succeed In Business’ plus the most personable TV stars of the day . The musical was based on Truman Capote’s story ‘Breakfast At Tiffany's’ about a writer, obviously Capote himself, who is fascinated by his eccentric neighbour, Holly Golightly. Ian Marshall Fisher researched this work by visiting Washington DC’s Library of Congress where the material had been sent in 1966 and had been untouched and stored.

Holly Golightly was selling out in Boston and Philadelphia and tickets were selling fast for Broadway. David Merrick then fired the Librettist and brought in a major playwright who rewrote the show and changed the show's title from Holly Golightly back to ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’. David Merrick then closed this rewritten musical in preview never allowing it to officially open on Broadway.

The cast is lead by Holly Dale Spencer (Holly Golightly), Joseph Wilkins (Jefferson Claypool), Julio Galan, Gary Raymond (Doc Golightly), Simone Craddock (Mag Wildwood), Myra Sands (Madam Spanella) Stewart Permutt (Yunioshi), Paul Lincoln, Jay Worthy, Gareth Davies, George Bryan, Sarah Pearman and Jonathan Dryden Taylor. The musical director is Chris Walker.

Holly Dale Spencer played Gina in Noël Coward’s ‘Words and Music’ Lost Musical, and recently was Lois/Bianca in Trevor Nunn’s production of ‘Kiss Me Kate’ at Chichester Festival Theatre and the Old Vic. Joseph Wilkins is currently in ‘Othello’ and was in ‘The Captain of Kopenick’ at the National. Chris Walker is currently the orchestrator for ‘The Sound of Music’ Regents Park and ‘Top Hat’ Aldwych.

Prior to the start of each musical there is an appraisal on its history. The guest speakers will include Mrs Bob Merrill and James Burrows (son of Abe Burrows) the multi-Award winning director of ‘Will And Grace’, ‘Frasier,’ ‘Friends’ ‘Cheers’, ‘Mary Tyler Moore Show’.
