Enchanted April is written by Matthew Barber, based on the 1922 novel by Elizabeth von Armin. It was at the Belasco Theater on Broadway in 2003 where it was nominated for a Tony and Drama League Award.

Feeling lost in their marriages and adrift in the changing world of post World War One society, Lotty and Rose, two unhappy London housewives, rent a villa in Tuscany in 1922 for an impulsive holiday away from their husbands. They reluctantly recruit two other women to share the cost. Alone together under the Mediterranean sun, the four women clash — and then begin to bond and bloom — until men once again threaten the balance.

Sally Hughes has been the Artistic Director of The Mill At Sonning since 1984. She has portrayed Doris Day in ‘A Sentimental Journey’ in the sell out seasons in Edinburgh, Wilton’s Musical Hall, Los Angeles and at the Mill at Sonning.
