"This phantasmagoric production is a tour de force for its writer-star, Bryan Burroughs”. THE NEW YORK TIMES

The UK premiere of Beowulf: The Blockbuster will be at The Pleasance Courtyard: Beside, Edinburgh from Wednesday 30 July to Sunday 24 August at 12.50pm. It is written and performed by Bryan Burroughs, directed by David Horan designed by Maree Kearns with lighting by Kevin Smith: the creative team for 2013 Fringe First Award winning ‘These Halcyon Days’. The dramaturg is Gavin Kostick and sound is by Philip Stewart. Pat Moylan presents this Show In A Bag production.

Beowulf The Blockbuster is a physical, comic and vibrant story, brought to life through a cinematic journey, and a father’s final chance to connect with his son complete with Spielbergian monsters. Bryan Burrough’s performance includes a multitude of super-heroes from Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones and Bruce Lee, to Beowulf himself.

Irish Times Award winning actor Bryan Burroughs has been in Tokyo in June performing Samuel Beckett’s ‘Act Without Words II’ prior to a planned season at the Barbican London in June 2015. This Beckett production has toured internationally since 2009 including the UK.

Beowulf: The Blockbuster was at the 2013 Dublin Festival where it received great critical acclaim. Earlier this year it was revived at the Viking Theatre Dublin prior to a sell out season at New York’s Irish Arts Center in May where the New York Times hailed it as their Critic’s Pick. It has just been at the Listowel Writer’s Week, Kerry and will be at The West Cork Fit Up Festival from Tuesday 22 to Sunday 27 July.

This summer David Horan has directed ‘Moll’ by John B. Keane with Frank Kelly at the Gaiety Theatre Dublin. He has directed several plays by Deirdre Kinahan, ‘In the Pipeline’ by Gary Owen for Paines Plough/Oran Mor Theatre Glasgow and Abbey Theatre Dublin productions.

CRITICS’ PICK - New York Times “dazzling, poignant production” ★★★★★ Sunday Times "Tragic. Funny. Epic. Don't miss it."

★★★★★ - Irish Times "No props, gimmicks or special effects – just brilliant theatre."
