Annie Ryan’s adaptation of Eimear McBride’s award winning novel, A Girl is a Half-formed Thing, will be at Traverse 1, Edinburgh Fringe Festival from Thursday 6 to Sunday 30th August 2015.

It is produced by The Corn Exchange, Dublin in association with Cusack Projects and supported by Culture Ireland, Dublin City and Arts Council Ireland. The world première was at last year’s Dublin Theatre Festival prior to a sold out Irish tour earlier this year. A 2016 UK tour includes The Tobacco Factory, Bristol 26 - 30 Jan, The Quays Theatre, Lowry, Salford 4 - 6 Feb, The Maria,Young Vic Wed 17 Feb – Sat 19 March 2016 Press Night: Fri 19 Feb, 7.00pm Weston Studio, Millennium Centre, Cardiff 29 March - 2nd April and then the Baryshnikov Arts Center's Jerome Robbins Theater, New York (April 2016).

Aoife Duffin will recreate her much acclaimed role. A Girl is a Half-formed Thing follows the inner narrative of a girl from the womb to twenty with vivid intensity. She is a character of astonishing resilience and intelligence, someone determined to make sense of things amidst the crushing Catholicism and deprivation of her Irish childhood. The play text is published by Faber and Faber. The production has just played at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival.

Aoife Duffin roles include SKY TV series ‘Moone Boy’ with Chris O’Dowd, Headlong’s 2014 UK tour of ‘Spring Awakening’, Abigail in ‘The Crucible’, Lyric Theatre (Winner, Best Supporting Actress Irish Times Theatre Awards 2012).

Annie Ryan founded The Corn Exchange in 1995 with writer Michael West. They have created an Award winning repertoire. Their productions at the Traverse Theatre have been Man of Valour 2011, Freefall 2010 and Dublin By Lamplight 2005 and Foley 2001. The music and sound design is by Mel Mercier (Tony Award nominee for ‘The Testament of Mary' by Colm Tóibín); with set design by Lian Bell ‘Star of the Sea’ (Galway International Arts Festival 2014), lighting design Sinéad Wallace; ‘Desire Under the Elms’ a Dublin Theatre Festival 2013, (Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Lighting Design for Corn Exchange’s production of Samuel Beckett’s ‘Happy Days’); with costume design by Katie Crowley.

The incredible debut novel A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing by Eimear McBride has won the Goldsmiths Prize for fiction 2013, followed by nominations for The Folio Prize and The Guardian First Book Prize. The novel won the 2014 Baileys Women’s Prize for fiction (formerly the Orange prize) plus the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award.
