Bar Mitzvah Boy - Jack Rosenthal adapted his award winning 1976 TV play (British Academy Best Play Award and Broadcasting Press Guild Best Play Award), for the musical stage with America's Oscar and Tony award composer Jule Styne and lyrics by Oscar and Tony award winner Don Black.

In the cast are Adam Bregman (Eliot) , Sue Kelvin (Rita), Robert Maskell (Victor), Lara Stubbs (Lesley), Nicholas Corre (Harold), Hayward B Morse (Granddad), Jeremy Rose (Rabbi), Hannah Thompson (Denise). Direction and musical staging are by Stewart Nicholls.

It will be designed by Grace Smart with lighting by James Smith and sound by Charles Parry. The orchestrator/Musical Supervisor is Richard Healey, Musical Director is Ed Court, and additional Musical Director Neil Macdonald.

This will be Adam Bregman’s first professional role. Sue Kelvin’s show ‘Bette Midler and Me’ played a sell out 2015 Edinburgh season at the Gilded Balloon. Her many stage roles include ‘Wicked’ , Jonathan Kent’s production of ‘Private Lives’ and ‘Travelling Light’ directed by Nicholas Hytner. Nicholas Corre has just finished a season in ‘The Book of Mormon’. He was Bernstein in ‘Dogfight’ at Southwark Playhouse. Robert Maskell has been in many West End productions including ‘La Cage Aux Folles’ Playhouse and ‘The Sound of Music’ at the Palladium. Last autumn Lara Stubbs was Xenia in 'Hecuba' RSC at The Swan.

This is the first staging of Bar Mitzvah Boy since the original 1978 London production.

Don Black has written new songs to unheard Jule Styne compositions and a revised script has been written by David Thompson, author of ‘The Scottsboro Boys’, ‘Steel Pier’, libretto for ‘And The World Goes Round’ plus the script adaptation of the hit musical revival of ‘Chicago’.

Bar Mitzvah Boy is about a North London family's anxious build up to their only son's Bar Mitzvah. This classic tale resonates for any important family occasion – whatever the religion!

Bar Mitzvah Boy was composer Jule Styne's only London musical. His musical 'Gypsy' has just had a sold out season at the Savoy where his musical 'Funny Girl' will run from April. Jule Styne was born in London and was a prolific Hollywood and Broadway composer whose other work includes ‘Bells Are Ringing’ and ‘Gentleman Prefer Blondes’.

Don Black has written the lyrics for ‘Sunset Boulevard’ which will be revived at the Coliseum in April, ‘Tell Me On a Sunday’ which is currently touring and Mrs Henderson Presents which is currently at the Noel Coward Theatre. His other work includes ‘Aspects of Love’, and classic hit songs: Thunderball, Tomorrow Never Dies, Diamonds Are Forever, The World Is Not Enough, To Sir With Love, plus Born Free (for which he won an Oscar).
