One hundred years and over a million visitors later, the Empire is set to define the current cabaret revival with a genre defying night of outstanding variety. The old school, the new guard, the weird, the wacky and wonderful will gather to show the world how it’s done in a show that celebrates the international flavour and spirit of excellence for which the Hackney Empire has always enjoyed an unrivalled reputation.

Susie McKenna, Creative Director of Hackney Empire, has teamed up with Julie-Ann Laidlaw of the award winning Blond Ambition Events and celebrated compere and cabaret curator Desmond O’Connor to bring together the cream of the cabaret scene and to create several exclusive performances for the debut night of La Varieté on Friday April 15.

Performers include Peter Straker, Sarah-Louise Young, Carl Parris as Wanda Braah, Piff the Magic Dragon, Missy Macabre, Pippa the Ripper, aerialist Antoinette and Hackney Empire Best Newcomer, Abandoman. All this plus a stunning house band and full supporting company. Later, Hackney Empire will become home to a post-show, East-end soirée - BARS OPEN TILL LATE – SO DRESS TO IMPRESS AND COME PREPARED TO PARTY!

Witness the metamorphosis of one man Bruce Airhead and a six foot balloon in a cabaret act unlike anything you have ever seen. Abandoman are winners of the Musical Comedy and Hackney Empire 2010 Awards. They are regular performers on BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show and Chris Hawkin’s Breakfast Show BBC Radio 6. Broadway performer Pippa The Ripper is a spectacularly skilled hula-hoop artist and aerialist. Piff The Magic Dragon, the hottest magician in town, has played two sell out seasons at the Edinburgh Festival. Peter Straker was one of the original London cast of ‘Hair’. He wrote and performed with Freddie Mercury and plays sell out seasons at Edinburgh Festivals.
