By J L Carr, adapted and directed by Fringe First winning Paul Hodson, (Meeting ‘Joe Strummer’, ‘Fever Pitch’,) will be at the Gilded Balloon Teviot - Dining Room from Wed 3 – Mon 29 Aug at 13.15 (ex Tues 16 Aug). Running time 1 hour 15 mins.

It is produced by New Perspectives (the makers of ‘Farm Boy’ Official Fringe Sell Out 2010) and performed by Mark Jardine.

Is it possible? Could a humble village team really have taken on the best that the football leagues could throw at it and still come out on top? When an enigmatic trainer with revolutionary theories, two of the best players ever to have disappeared without trace from football’s top flight, and a chairman of Napoleonic ability all find themselves in the same place at the same time, it just might be!

This joyous tale of the unstoppable rise of the ultimate underdog is rivetingly retold in a funny and touching new one-man show – prepare to laugh, prepare to cry, and above all to believe every word!

Paul Hodson won a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival 2006 for ‘Meeting Joe Strummer’, which he also directed. Paul’s play about John Peel, ‘Teenage Kicks’, sold out its run at the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe and will tour in 2012. Over the years Paul has adapted a number of books for the stage, including Nick Hornby’s ‘Fever Pitch’, which toured for 6 years and Bill Bryson’s books ‘The Lost Continent’, ‘Notes from a Small Island’ and ‘Down Under’. Mark Jardine has recently been seen in ‘Oranges and Sunshine’ with Hugo Weaving and Emily Watson. He was in ‘Forever Young’ and ‘Garage Band’ at the Nottingham Playhouse earlier this year. He has played Mr Lyons in Bill Kenwright’s production of ‘Blood Brothers’.

Praise for the book:

‘ Simply the best football novel ever written’ - The London Magazine

‘ Wistful, elegiac and uproariously funny’ – The Observer
