Based on the classic film, Whistle Down the Wind is an extraordinary tale about the transforming power of love.

In America's Deep South, a 15 year old girl discovers a mysterious man hiding in a barn. When she asks his identity the first words the startled man utters are "Jesus Christ"; it's as if all her prayers have been answered. The girl and the town's children vow to protect the stranger; meanwhile the adults are out to catch a fugitive.

The musical’s multi-award winning songs have been recorded by artists including Tom Jones, Donny Osmond, Meat Loaf, Tina Arena, Michael Ball and Boyzone, who went double platinum with the 1998 No 1 hit single No Matter What. The Whistle Down the Wind Album went gold in its first week of release in the UK and Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman were the UK’s number one Songwriters for No Matter What in Music Week for July, August and September 1998.

Following its first production in the USA, where it broke box office records at the National Theatre, Washington DC, Whistle Down The Wind enjoyed a successful 2 ½ year run at the Aldwych Theatre, London. This will be a West End first for Bill Kenwright’s reworking of the musical, based on the original novel by Mary Hayley Bell and the film produced by Richard Attenborough.

The book for the musical was written by Patricia Knop, Gale Edwards and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is directed by Bill Kenwright, with choreography by Henry Metcalfe, design by Paul Farnsworth, musical direction by David Steadman, sound by Mick Potter and lighting by Nick Richings. Tim Rogers will play ‘The Man’ with Claire Marlowe as ‘Swallow’. Tim Rogers has played lead operatic roles: his other roles include in ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, Ms Saigon, and ‘Showboat’, Tony in ‘West Side Story’ and Frederick in ‘Pirates of Penzance’ with the D’Oyly Carte. Claire Marlowe was a member of the NYMT where she took part in the Andrew Lloyd Webber 50th Birthday Celebration at the Royal Albert Hall. She has recently performed at La Scala, Italy in ‘A Broadway Musical Gala’.
