This new version by Ben Crocker will be at The Theatre Chipping Norton from Tues 22nd November 2011 for a seven week season to Sat 7th Jan 2012. The press performance is on Thursday 24 November at 7.30pm.

Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves has book and lyrics by Ben Crocker with music by Sarah Travis. It is directed by John Terry with design by Russell Craig, costumes by Nell Knudsen and lighting by Amy Southeard. The choreographer is Lucy Hind.

Ali Baba & The Forty Thieves follows the story of a penniless woodcutter, a greedy brother, a secret cave and the biggest baddest band of blaggers in all Baghdad. Spectacle, wonder and a swag-bag full of laughs and sweets amongst the spice-scented splendour of Old Arabia.

Craig Rhys-Barlow plays Ali, Middleton Mann is Mustapha, Kali Peacock is Nossah/Sharron, Sam Kordbacheh is Cassim, Samuel Dutton is Yessah/Fab Rick, Shaun Hennessy is Mum Baba and Suzanne Ahmet is Safyia. The production is sponsored by Kingham Hill School.

This will be the third pantomime by Ben Crocker for The Theatre Chipping Norton. There will be over thirty pantomimes written by Ben Crocker worldwide this year.

Sarah Travis has composed music for 8 previous pantomimes at Chipping Norton. There will be 10 new musical numbers. Sarah Travis is the Musical Director of ‘Chess’ for the UK tour and now in Toronto. Russell Craig has designed for major companies worldwide including with the RSC, Glyndebourne, ENO, Opera North, and 16 shows at the Unicorn Theatre. A souk will be created in the entire Chipping Norton auditorium. There will be a real fountain, palm trees, and stalls selling lanterns, slippers, bracelets, swords, chocolate gold coins and camel puppets. John Terry, Award winning Artistic Director of The Theatre Chipping Norton since 2008, has directed at the Royal Exchange, Finborough Theatre and has been a staff director at the National Theatre. He has directed the pantomime for the last three years.
