The Almeida Theatre’s Sell-Out production of Festen

Rufus Norris’s critically acclaimed Evening Standard, Critics Circle and whatsonstage Award winning production of Festen extends its run at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, to Sat 16 April 2005, prior to Broadway. Festen has Olivier Award nominations for Best New Play, Best Director, Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Sound Design.
David Eldridge's English language stage adaptation of the cult Dogme film enjoyed a sell-out run at the Almeida Theatre and huge critical acclaim following its transfer to the West End in September 2004. Set designs are by Ian MacNeil, costume designs are by Joan Wadge, lighting designs are by Jean Kalman, music is by Orlando Gough and sound is by Paul Arditti. Festen is presented at the Lyric Theatre by Marla Rubin and Bill Kenwright.

Patriarch Helge Klingelfeldt is celebrating his 60th birthday with his family at a magnificent old house in the Danish countryside. Gathered together are his loyal wife Elsa, his daughter Helene, and sons Christian and Michael. As the evening progresses Christian feels compelled to break the silence surrounding a dark family secret. The effect is explosive and sets the tone for a celebration no-one will forget.
